I know I haven't posted anything in ages, and I actually have a valid excuse for it this time: I'VE MOVED TO SYDNEY AND STARTED UNIVERSITY THERE HOLY SHIT.
I've been here since the 20th, after 24 hours spent on various planes, and here's what's been going on:
- I live in a place called the International House, which is located on campus. It's amazing, everyone is super nice and everyone has a different background which is really exciting.
- I live in a relatively large dorm room with my roommate who is awesome.
- I'm majoring in Art History and my classes start on Monday.
- I've been partying every single night since I got here and that, combined with my jet lag, has completely exhausted me.
So basically my life went from relatively boring to insanely exciting overnight. And the climate I live in changed from Sweden's -10 degrees to
Australia's +30. And instead of living with my family I'm living with other people my age. There's been a lot of change but all of it's been positive.
I do miss my family and friends in Sweden, but thanks to the Internet it won't be hard to stay in contact with them. Leaving everyone was pretty damn hard though.
So yeah, that's what's been going on! Right now I'm sitting in my dorm room and trying not to nod off due to jet lag, which still hasn't gone away. I spent the morning going around the O-week stalls and joining clubs. I'm now a proud member of the Chocolate Appreciation Society, the Tea society, the Queer Revue society, a club called Shades, the Vegetarian Society and the Animal Welfare society. :D
Hope you've all had a good month, and I'll try to be more active in the future!
So I just found out that my old P.E. teacher in Australia, Keli Lane, has been convicted of murdering her daughter.
I'm a little freaked out, to be honest.
So it's 30 years since John Lennon was murdered. Since he's one of my favourite musicians of all time I thought I'd commemorate that somehow.
R.I.P JOHN LENNON
~THE HOTTEST BEATLE~
And talented, wrote my favourite Beatles song, best solo career, one of my personal heroes etc etc but that's not important
So yesterday I went over to manmustdance's place to make Christmas cards, which was all nice and Christmas-y and cozy. And the people on my flist who are getting a card should be VERY excited because I usually don't make cards at all, so this is a special treat! (Whether or not the cards are pretty is another matter entirely. But at least they're all made out of ecological Fairtrade paper, because apparently I'm more of a treehugger than I previously thought.)
Then last night neonmushroom came over for a night of wine-drinking, trivia-gaming and secret-telling. As you do.
Okay, enough chit-chat! Time for a TV show survey!
Pick your five favorite TV shows (in no particular order) and answer the following questions. Don’t cheat!
A: Black Books
B: Doctor Who
E: Summer Heights High
( Rest of the survey under le cutCollapse )
I shall now describe every day of my weekend because that is what my blog is all about:
Friday - Saw Lady Gaga live and it was holy shit so awesome and I may have teared up at one point omg what is my life. But, in my defense, everyone around me was crying. It was epic. Now, when I look back at all my other favourite concert experiences, I'm like...Bob Dylan, Regina Spektor, Lily Allen, Oasis, Coldplay, Nick Cave, Noah and the Whale, Billie the Vision, I'm happy for you and I'mma let you finish, but Lady Gaga had the best concert of all time. OF ALL TIME.
Saturday - Partook in inappropriate sexual activities on the dance floor of some weird nightclub while music from Grease and Spice Girls was playing. I REGRET NOTHING.
Sunday - Saw Harry Potter and I don't care what anyone says, I loved it. Even the dancing. YES, THE DANCING. Also, Rupert and Emma are so hot. I wanted to ravage both of them.
Also, my musical hero/super-inspiration Glenn Richards has released a new solo album, which I'm both happy and sad about. Happy because yay awesome music from Glenn Richards! :D And sad because this means that his band Augie March (i.e. one of my two favourite bands, together with the Beatles) is on 'hiatus' thus ruining my dream of seeing them live D:
Oh, and the latest episode of Supernatural was SO. FREAKING. AWESOME. My favourite so far this season. Servicing fairy kings! Death by microwave! Horny robo-Sam!
Going to bed now to power up for my 10 hour work day tomorrow. Good night, all you lovely people.
This weekend, I went at a 50s-themed party. I just wanted to write an entry about it and say how completely awesome that was, because it was just so impeccably done. Everyone had put so much effort into dressing up - the guys were all in sweet-ass suits or rockabilly outfits and all of us girls were in skirts and polkadot dresses. I felt like I was in the 50s, except with civil rights and cooler slang. The party was kind of like this:
Except with less awesome dancing. (Seriously, how amazing is that video? So amazing.) We even had a live band. At one point we were all doing the hand jive, and it was literally exactly like that hand jive scene from Grease. Epic. I haven't danced that much in ages. Let me tell you: there ain't no party like a party in the 50's.
And now: book survey!
( Because books are awesome. Collapse )
Two important things to talk about today
1. Roy Orbison in Cling-Film
I think I need this book in my life. Right this minute. I mean, just look at this description:
Hello, and welcome to my book. My name is Ulrich Haarburste and I like to write stories about Roy Orbison being completely wrapped in clingfilm. When I put these stories on my website they proved very popular so I have written this novel. This tome also contains the original tales and some new ones. Not to speak boastfully but it is perhaps the only book you will ever need to own on the subject of wrapping Roy Orbison in clingfilm. So then. If you will proceed to the till in an orderly fashion, you may commence to buy.
OH MY GOD SOMEBODY STOP ME BEFORE I BUY IT
2. My Happy Socks
So when I was in Stockholm last week, me and Phoebe bought two matching pairs of socks of the brand Happy Socks at this random little store called Happy Socks. Apparently, these socks make you happy. It's all there in the name. Well, we tried them out and yes, the rumours are true: putting them on will make you immediately happy. They are knee-highs and awesomely patterned and very comfortable. I'm wearing them right now, and hell, I feel very happy.
( ACTUAL PHOTO PROOF OF THE HAPPY SOCK EFFECTCollapse )
And no, this is not just an elaborate advertising scheme from the lovely people over at Happy Socks. I just realized that I haven't written about one of my great passions - socks - on my blog before, so I thought it was high time, really.
Since I'm still horribly sick (and thus breaking my perfect attendance record at work D:) I'm doing this meme to amuse myself.
Tagged-but-not-really by sweetsyren
List seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.
Do not tag the person who tagged you or say that you tag "whoever wants to do it". Anyone tagged who is not up for it, feel free to pass.
SCREW THE TAGGING SYSTEM. It's oppressive. I HEREBY TAG ANYONE WHO HAPPENS TO BE READING THIS.
And I decided to not make these too TMI. Consider yourselves spared.
1) I have Raynaud's disease. But don't worry, it's not as horrific as the Wikipedia article makes it look! (Don't be disgusted by me! D:)
2) My weight hasn't changed at all since I was 14. Literally. No change. It kind of freaks me out when I think about it, so I try not to.
3) Even though I pretend to only like good TV shows, I am in reality extremely addicted to trashy reality shows. Like, sitting-by-myself-eating-nachos-while-ma
4) If I had to name my personal heroes, it would be the Vanguard documentary team on Current TV. I have been following them for ages now, and they are such an inspiration to me. When I say that I want to be a journalist, this is the kind of journalism that I ultimately want to be doing. I've watched every single episode and I just <3 them. Can't wait for the new season. (Also, Laura Ling who was stuck in North Korea for 6 months? She is so. Fucking. Brave.)
5) I don't remember my first kiss, because it was one of many (sober!) kisses at 3rd grade parties when I was little (that's just what little Swedish kids do, okay!), so I just don't remember which one was the first one. As a consequence I am incredibly jealous of anyone who can remember their first kiss, and especially of those who had a special and memorable first kiss. Damn you all!
6) I spent my early teens in a very Christian private girl's school in Sydney. Thus, I am an atheist who can recite the entire Lord's prayer completely off by heart, as well as several hymns.
7) I used to have a crush on Christopher Walken
There. Seven completely random facts about myself. Now I think I'll pass out in a fever-induced haze.
Guys. GUYS. NANOWRIMO HAS STARTED AAAAAH. For some reason I decided to have a mental breakdown and actually sign up for it this year. I wrote 1 300 words today and I have a good idea where my novel is going but I'm still mad at myself for being crazy enough to do it. But, you know. I've signed up and I'm going to fucking see it through. Probably not going to write 50 000 words, but at least this will give me an incentive to actually start writing my original fiction. And I was at my local NaNoWriMo kick-off yesterday which was so much fun - there were lots of awesome people there and we're having regular meet-ups all through November. So it's a social thing, as well as a creative one. (I'M TRYING TO TELL MYSELF THAT IT WAS A GOOD IDEA K)
Anyone on my flist doing it? If so, tell me and we'll freak out about it together!
Oh and I've been in a feverish delirium all day so I don't really know how well I can write. I might look at the beginning of my novel tomorrow and be like "WTF WAS I WRITING". But oh well. My fever also meant I couldn't dress up and party for Halloween last night, which is just very sad :(
But the rest of my week has been absolutely spectacular. I went up to Stockholm to visit my Australian friend Phoebe who was backpacking there, so I got to live in a hostel with her and her awesome backpacker friends. We partied, went shopping, made new friends, hooked up with hot salsa-dancing people and had important talks about life, which are five of my favourite things to do so I had fun. And it was just wonderful to see her again. I'm so glad that even though I don't see some of my internationally based friends for years it still feels like no time at all has passed when we see each other again.
I also had an awesome Margherita night on Friday with Emily and Kaja. It basically consisted of oversharing about our sex lives as much as possible. <3
Anyway, I shall now go and wallow in my illness. Hopefully I'll be okay again by Tuesday, which is when I go back to work.
Hope you've all had a great week!
You guys, just saw this movie and it is SO PRETTY:
And everyone's got Irish accents and it's SO PRETTY and it's all full of awesome Celtic mythology and did I mention it's SO FREAKING PRETTY?
In other news, it's raining like crazy and I have to bike to work through the rain. I also have to cut my hair and make this because it looks amazing.
Okay, bye all you lovely people! I'm off to listen to the Rocky Horror Picture soundtrack while eating breakfast.
